It is sad state of affairs...but what do we realistically expect when every one of the Chelsea bench warmers bar the keeper would walk into our 1st team ? Season over and has been since that pathetic performance v Wimbledon.

I wondered why that Danny Drinklager didn’t turn out for them last night.
Apparently he was in the cells sobering up.
Serves him right (as the barman/barmaid said).

New Jersey

I think it is, from memory. But one game against a top team where he wasn't at his best and suddenly he's an average player.

On another note, Mo Salah hasn't been in great form the last few weeks. I imagine the same posters would insist that he isn't good enough for us based on that.

claretandbluedagger - Would that be the same Declan Rice who has just recently turned 20, has been, by far, our best outfield player, who Gareth Southgate played in a competitive match for England and is on Pep Guardiola's radar?

Another thing to consider

chelsea have only been beaten at home by City, United and leceister at the start of the season.

Oh, and I don;t think there's anything seriously wrong with Pellegrini- the man has won the league FFS.

Look at Benitez as well, quality manager and proven winner. He can only work with what he's got at Newcastle, just like Pellegrini can here. It takes more than one transfer window. This season hasn't been without it's problems but it's clear we are trying to play in a different and better way. We just need more talent in the squad. He can and will take us forward, given time and the opportunity to make the changes necessary.

Hazard was brilliant last night. Sole difference between a 2-0 win and an uneventful 0-0 draw.

Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and acknowledge a really good performance from an opposition player.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Well if there was any truth in the rumour (which I doubt) that Real Madrid were looking at Anderson if they couldn't get Hazard, if their scouts were at last nights match they would be telling the board Anderson isn't in the same league!

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread
It's all very well saying we need a clear out (and to be honest I agree) but the problem is once you clear out a load of players you need to replace them and if the board are not going to throw money at a rebuilding and we don't rebuild properly we are going to be in much the same state next season.

I feel for some of the players getting criticised because there are reasons for their form. As I said Cresswell has done ok considering Anderson offers him no help so defends on his own. At least he doesn't go to sleep like Masuaku. Hernandez isn't a lone striker, never has been and never will be so he is being asked to play a role he cannot do. He is nothing more than a substitute at a Club like this because we haven't got a good enough midfield and defence to play two up top. He is a goal scorer who scores his goals "in" the box but how many times have we got the ball in the box recently?! He would probably do quite well at a Wolves or Watford who seem t have a midfield and strategy that cope with playing two up top. Lanzini not long back from a nasty injury. Was one of our best players before that but it will take him time. Balbuena the same, great potential before the injury so will take time getting back to his best.

Even if the board throw money again we need people at the Club who can see properly the areas we need strengthening. Pellegrini bought players to be fair that he felt suited his philosophy and purchased players he thought had flair and creativity but we aren't Man City, we didn't have the spine to allow these players to be on the front foot every week. Central midfield is a glaring weakness and has been for years. You need an engine and legs in there and on the whole we haven't got that. I love Noble, he tries and does his best but his legs went last season at Upton Park.

I know the first rule of WHO is to have a scapegoat at all times, but some of the rubbish written about Rice in the last 12 hours or so is incredible. One game against a team chasing the Champions League in which he didn't have a brilliant game, and he suddenly is average/not good enough and so on. It's beyond embarrassing and the sort of thing I'd expect from 12 year olds (though that might actually be an accurate description of some posters). I reckon some just want him to play badly because they'd rather have more to moan about.

I think it is clear that pellegrini cannot motivate this group. It’s up to you whether you think that is because it is a style gap for him as a manager of that lots of the squad we’re fed up with how the Arnie debacle was handled...
I know when things got bad....

I can't see a meltdown Diehard

There's plenty of realistic acceptance that too many of our players either don't care or aren't good enough.

Also a recognition that Chelsea never had to put too much effort or guile into beating us.

Both of which are valid points for comment.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I do think people have to calm down.

It wasnt a great performance but realistaclly, Chelsea are miles ahead of us. The reason Sarri has been getting stick is because they should be up there challenging with Liverpool and Man City.

Higuain and Hazzard alone could start for Madrid or Barcelona. Kante is the best DM in Europe without question. They brough Giroud off the bench ffs?

They have control and pace and just burned through us because they are all very talented players. We on the other hand put Obiang on!

Maybe I have critisicm of Pellegrini in that there's no point in having both Lanzini and Anderson on against a team that can outplay you on the ball. Perhaps would have been better to start with both Noble and Obiang and be more combative in midfield.

I really wish we sold Arnie when we had the chance now as well. Never seen a player drop in form so much.

I dunno... 100m finish 11/12th it seems... I really dont understand football anymore.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread
It’s not just the one performance though is it?
We’ve had some genuinely bad managers in recent times so I get why you want Pellegrini to be the one, unfortunately it’s looking less likely after each and every game.
5 clean sheets all season??? You can’t just gloss over that, it’s an unbelievable stat.
The insistence on 4-4-2 as his “go to”.
Teams coming out unmotivated and seemingly uninterested, Wtf does he say to them?
Dropping in form players.
The list is endless and the odd 15 minutes of great football here and there does not compensate for his obvious shortcomings.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread
it took a world class performance from one of the best players in the world to beat us.

already dreading the meltdown on here when the united away game has been and gone. Despite the poor record at Old Trafford

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Champions League side or not - For the first goal he received the ball half way between our box and the half way line with nobody near him - He's their most dangerous player.

His second goal - he received the ball in the box - Nobody near him - He's their most dangerous player - We don't even get close enough to put a token challenge in.

The defending was shambolic.

I think the first tackle in the game for us was made by Snodgrass. It's a London Derby.

I said at the start of the season, hiring a 70 year old manager on 8-10mm a year is not the way forward. Yes he's managed top top clubs, but he's never managed a club that has terminal cancer. He's certainly not going to be the guy to change it either.

When the cross went in for Hazard to score the second goal, where were the back four? Ogbonna in particular was strolling around probably wondering what takeaway he was going to get on his way home.

He might walk as he knows he’s been rumbled, no other reason £8m a year you don’t walk.
I voiced my concerns early and unfortunately they seem to be coming true, I thought he deserved a bit more time but that is wearing incredibly thin now, he just doesn’t seem to learn and the cynic in me thinks he’s doing this on purpose.
Make no mistake if the season carries out along this vein then there are some big decisions to be made upstairs.
